If you've never been on a horse before, your outfitter, wrangler or guide will give you a quick lesson on how to start, stop, turn and ride your horse. You'll be prepared to hit the trail and enjoy the beautiful scenery that is offered in Montana. However, don't expect to learn everything for these skills take years to master and must be learned in riding school.

Almost all of the horseback riding you will find in Montana that we offer is Western style riding. Western style riding, or cowboy riding, uses a bigger and heavier saddle than English riding. Western riders hold the reigns in one hand and steer the horse by shifting the weight and tension in the neck reigns. Western riding is also more relaxed than English riding - a comforting thought to keep in mind when planning long trail rides in the moutains and valleys.

Many outfitters offer half-day trips to multi-day trips as we do. All are very rewarding in thier respective areas. Our outfitting company is well established and family owned, making a guides great source of information about the history and geology of the land, history, and area by locals. An assett to the local cowboys and cowgirls is likely to be full of local stories, legends and experiences. Some Companies offer combination whitewater rafting, fly-fishing, and horseback riding options as do we. With so many possibilities, the whole family will be satisfied in coming to montana and exploring the wonders of mother nature and great diversity that Montana offers.

Horseback riding is a rugged activity. There are reasons why cowboys dress as they do, and you will want to be dressed appropriately. Long pants or jeans made of sturdy fabric such as denim are necessary to protect your legs. Covered shoes are essential; you never know when a horse is going to step on your toes and feet. Wide brimmed hats and sunglasses are good commodities for keeping the sun out of your eyes. A hanckerchief is always handy by either tying it around the neck for protection from the sun or keeping cool/warm during the changing months. Chaps protect while riding where cowboy boots protect from slipping through the stirups when riding.
